What is Vitamin C?
Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is a nutrient your body needs to form blood vessels, cartilage, muscle, and collagen in bones. In cosmetics, it's the vitamin of choice for dull complexions that want to regain their radiance and even out their complexion (anti-dark spot action) by limiting the overproduction of melanin. However, when pure, it is also unstable, degrading very quickly in the presence of light or heat. To guarantee its performance in our formulas, Clarins Laboratories have selected a stabilised vitamin C derivative.
What are the Benefits of Vitamin C for the Skin?
Vitamin C skincare has many skin-healing properties that make it an excellent choice for anyone in pursuit of happy, healthy skin. One of the most well-known benefits of a Vitamin C product is that it can brighten your skin and minimise dark spots. Since vitamin C inhibits the tyrosinase enzyme, which causes skin discolouration, it helps lighten dark patches.
Vitamin C skincare stimulates the skin’s production of collagen, a protein that maintains skin moisturised and firm as well as keeps it plump and hydrated. Hence, Vitamin C can also minimise the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The National Library of Medicine study shows that daily vitamin C formulation use for at least three months improved the appearance of fine and coarse wrinkles of the face and neck.

Is vitamin C skincare better in the morning or night?
The best time to apply vitamin C skincare product is in the morning, after cleansing and toning your complexion, and before moisturiser and SPF. If you don't have overly sensitive skin, you can apply it in the morning and evening.
Plus, you might be wondering, ‘Is vitamin C good for your face every day?’. The answer is yes. You can use vitamin C to protect your skin against sun damage and reduce premature cell death and inflammatory compounds.
What cannot be mixed with vitamin C?
Vitamin C skincare should not be mixed with acids, which includes all AHAs and BHAs. when paired with vitamin C, alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) can cause irritation, so consider using the former in the morning and the latter at night.
It is also recommended that you should not use retinol, niacinamide, and benzol peroxide in the same routine. If you want a double dose of both, wait at least 30 minutes before applying retinol over vitamin C. Alternatively, you can use vitamin C in the morning and the other ones at night.
