White mulberry is an impressive tree with wide-spreading branches. The dark green leaves provide a nice shade. The leaves also resist the effects of atmospheric pollution well. Originally from southeast Asia, white mulberry has been grown for its leaves that nourish silkworms. Linked to the secret behind silk making, the tree was considered very precious. White mulberry tree leaves are used to treat bronchitis, soothe a sore throat, calm eye and skin irritations, and relieve toothaches. Traditional Chinese medicine uses bark from the tree's roots to calm asthma and reduce swelling.
