Wakame is a brown seaweed that has been an important part of the Japanese diet for thousands of years. It is a highly resilient type of seaweed which survives in Brittany's fierce and cold currents and clings to boat hulls, buoys, rocks, etc. It is useful to draw a parallel between the seaweed’s strength and the way in which organic wakame extract revitalizes skin by reinforcing its barrier function. Today, it is also closely studied for its therapeutic properties. Along with other types of seaweed, it is considered the new “green gold”, forming the basis of the “Okinawa diet” from the island of “power ageing". The inhabitants of this island in southern Japan are unusual in that they remain healthier in old age than anywhere else while living for much longer. Wakame (Undaria pinnatifida) comes from the Latin world “unda” which means wave.

Responsible sourcing
The organic wakame used for our extract is grown in Brittany, France. The fertile base of the seaweed is harvested at sea then grown in a hatchery until small seaweed is produced. It then develops naturally at sea following its transfer to specific rigging, and is used once again in the next production cycle.
