This subshrub can reach 30-90cm in height and grows in tufts. Lemon balm is a perennial plant farmed or grows wild in the woods, alongside roadways, hedgerows and other cool areas. The plant has hairy stems toward the top and rough, waffle-like leaves that emit a lemon scent. It has white or pink flowers which bloom in the summer and last until October. The Greek word for lemon balm, 'melissa,' means 'bee', which is quite a coincidence since bees love this plant's flowers and make delicious honey after taking up their nectar. Used since Antiquity as a medicinal plant, lemon balm helps treat a variety of issues, including digestive and nerve troubles. In addition, it promotes sleep and relieves fight stress. Studies confirm that the plant helps promote relaxation and diminishes stress and anxiety.
