The apricot is thought to have originated from the mountainous regions of Central Asia and not Armenia, as its botanical name seems to indicate. However, in this region, the tree became widespread after being brought here by caravans on the silk route. Introduced to France in the 15th century, it appeared at Versailles thanks to La Quintinie, a French agronomist and gardener. Its small, round, velvety fruit, the apricot, is made into delicious jams and other sweets. In addition, oil is extracted from the kernel of the apricot.
